HEAD CARPENTER

The Port Theatre Society is seeking a professional stage technician for the position of Head Carpenter to join our leadership team.

This is a full time, salaried position and offers an extensive benefit package.

This position reports to the Technical Director and directly supervises part time staff on an as-needed basis.

The successful candidate will have excellent technical and communication skills and will exhibit a keen interest and marked ability to work as a part of a dynamic team environment. The Head Carpenter will be expected to assist the Production Team in all areas of theatre management as required. This position emphasizes client interaction and strong soft skills are required.

The successful candidate will have:

- Extensive experience working in a counterweight fly house and exemplary stagecraft skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage maintenance and ongoing capital development of the stage and related equipment
- Experience and proven ability in supervising and nurturing casual and part-time staff
- Ability to contact clients to advance upcoming events as needed
- Ability to provide expertise and assistance to both community and professional touring clientele
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and Vectorworks.
- An interest in lifelong learning and professional development
- A willingness to teach and share information and knowledge, and to be a team player

Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator

The Port Theatre Society is seeking a new team member:
This is a full time (35 hours/wk), salaried position and offers an extensive benefit package.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for increasing awareness of The Port Theatre by coordinating all aspects of marketing including but not limited to developing an annual promotional strategy for The Port Theatre’s “Spotlight” events, maintaining media relations, sponsorship contract negotiation, and overseeing and developing all aspects of campaign strategies for outreach programs The Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator will also seek to cultivate strategic relationships in the community, developing and securing sponsorships, donations and developing new fundraising opportunities. This position is an integral part of The Port Theatre team, working in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be a forward thinking, energetic team player that is extremely comfortable engaging our audiences and partners.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Developing and executing an annual promotional strategy for The Port Theatre’s Spotlight events
• Developing overall marketing strategy and development of brand guidelines…print, radio and television advertising, publications, online, radio, and/or television… Coordination of ad production and delivery/deadlines, and managing relationships with media suppliers
• Planning collateral material and timelines, delivery and distribution, proofing, publishing and archiving
• Researching and negotiating new advertising and media opportunities
• Tracking expenses to budget projections… planning and managing of advertising budget
• Managing delivery of project requirements, process with graphic design agency and printers
• Developing potential business and community partnerships / sponsorships
• Overseeing the design and development of outreach programs
• Assisting with grant applications for Port Theatre Spotlight series in collaboration with the general manager and our team
• Writing and editing for our Annual Report and other publications
• Conducting market research and evaluating data about audience, members, and donors
• Public speaking and active audience engagement is required
The successful candidate will have:
• Excellent interpersonal, networking and organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Marked interest and ability to work as a team member
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook – knowledge of Adobe software considered an asset)
• Strong time management skills, to deal with multiple projects and work in a fast paced environment
• Flexibility and keenness to work flexible hours as required
• Energy, dedication, diplomacy and creativity, with sound judgment, and the ability to handle confidential information

Education and Experience:

• Minimum 3 to 5 years demonstrated experience in marketing and advertising preferably in a performing arts organization and/or a combination of relevant education and experience
• Experience working in the not-for-profit sector and the Arts will be an asset
• Demonstrated experience working with the media (TV, radio, print and new media)
• Knowledge of ad publishing, graphic design, and social media
• Demonstrated experience in cultivation and recognition of donors will be an asset
• Degree in marketing, communications or other relevant areas considered an asset
• Knowledge of ethical fundraising principles and grant writing considered an asset
