The Sun and the Moon
An Experimental Dancefilm Documentary

The Sun and the Moon is an experimental dancefilm documentary, made in collaboration with Snuneymuxw author and storyteller, Celestine Aleck, choreographer Holly Bright, filmmaker Evann Siebens, dancers Geneviève Johnson and Nicola Jackson, costume design by Graham McMonagle and with music by Wayne Lavallee. The stage production includes video design by Chimerik 似不像, drawings by Cole Melvin Good and lighting by John Carter.

A translation from a live performance, the film explores themes of Indigenous and settler reconciliation, mental health and healing and explores challenges in creating a collaborative dance piece. Beautifully shot in nature on Snuneymuxw homelands, in and around Nanaimo, Canada, the film brings to life how a mythic fable about the Sun and the Moon, acts as a metaphor for the ways in which life imitates art and art reflects life.

This filmed adaptation of The Sun and the Moon is supported by Canada Council for the Arts and the British Columbia Arts Council.

Tickets: $25.50
