Honest, beautiful, cheeky, swingin’ jazz. Teighan Couch — local jazz vocalist and composer known for her powerful voice and amazing vocal range. “Once I discovered jazz, I fell in love.” Teighan’s been performing to sold-out crowds across Vancouver Island and now she’s ready to dominate the Port Theatre stage! Joined by Kelby Kelby MacNayr on drums, Nick Mintenko on bass, and Ashley Wey on keys, it’ll be a great night of swing and bebop. Fun, upbeat, and uplifting, you’ll be dancing in your seat.

“My voice is an instrument.” Teighan’s jazz music features vocal improvisations including scat singing, or scatting, to tell stories. “I love the intensity of jazz. It’s honest, truthful, and comes from a lot of despair. But it flips the script! It’s also happy, beautiful, funny, and upbeat music with complex harmonies. Her music is personal and powerful with songs about love and heartbreak. Teighan’s latest album, “It’s Pronounced Cooch” was a collaborative project featuring a rhythm section of local seasoned professionals. “It’s tongue and cheek. Jazz has pulled me out of those hard times and changes my mood. It’s really hard to be sad when you’re listening to swing tunes.”
