Fiddelium is a dynamic youth folk music ensemble that brings electrifying energy and heartfelt tradition to every stage they play. Based here in Nanaimo, this talented group has spent the past decade lighting up concert halls, festivals, and community stages up and down Vancouver Island with their infectious spirit and stunning musicianship.
Winners of the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Award, Fiddelium blends youthful enthusiasm with polished performance, creating a sound that’s as joyful as it is captivating. Their rich arrangements and vibrant stage presence have earned them a devoted following and a reputation as one of the West Coast’s most exciting folk acts.
This year’s guest artist, the Nanaimo Cello Choir, is directed by renowned symphony and chamber musician Alexandra Lee. Cello Choir brings together cellists of all levels to explore classical masterworks in a dynamic ensemble setting. Under Lee’s expert guidance, the group cultivates rich, expressive performances that celebrate the depth and versatility of the cello.
Folk Band is an inclusive, all-ages community ensemble featuring violins, violas, cellos, and guitars, welcoming musicians of all skill levels. Under the direction of Trish Horrocks, the group performs a wide variety of music specially arranged to suit its diverse players.
A cherished highlight of this concert since 2017 is the Nanaimo Suzuki Strings, featuring young violin, viola, and cello students aged 3 and up.
