BROTHER 12 IS BACK!
Following a sold out run at the OV Arts Centre last spring, “The Cult of Brother 12”, a musical dark comedy, returns to Nanaimo in an exciting, expanded new production, running March 30th to April 2nd at Malaspina Theatre, VIU.
“The Cult of Brother 12” is a witty, irreverent, and very tuneful take on the story of the spiritual leader and con man who, in the 1920s, drew acolytes to Valdes Island from around the world.
If you missed this toe-tapping, laughter-filled, roller-coaster-ride of a show last year, when The Cult took Nanaimo by storm, you won’t want to miss it this time.
And if you did catch it, just wait until you see what happens with a live band added (the incredible Marty Steele Quintet), new cast members, and an all-singing, all-dancing chorus!
Playwright and Lyricist Bill Miner brings some fun new elements to the story. “My Brother 12 is pursued by an intrepid investigative journalist, Doris Abercrombie, who’s out to expose his greed and corruption,” he says.
Composer Marty Steele adds that live musical accompaniment takes the show to another level. “Although orchestrated tracks were used in the original performances, there is nothing that comes close to the high energy of a live band.”
What audiences are saying:
“Wonderfully entertaining . . . realized we hadn’t laughed so hard for a long time.”
“An extraordinary accomplishment.”
“Full of unexpected laughs, intelligent dialogue and lyrics, and sprinkled with just the right amount of commentary on western definitions of success and gender divides.”
