A Giant's Garden
Brighten up the dark December days with a musical telling of the classic tale by Oscar Wilde, The Selfish Giant. This heartwarming story follows the Giant’s grinch-like transformation, from a greedy recluse to a kindly colossus. Featuring narrator and string trio, this charming performance celebrates the values of generosity, sharing, and community.
The program includes a delightful mix of classical pieces and holiday favourites. Enjoy excerpts from Corelli’s Christmas Concerto and Vivaldi’s Spring, alongside beloved traditional carols such as The Sussex Carol, and Noël, c’est l’amour.
Audience members are invited to take part in a guided soundscape, and join in a sing-along of popular carols, performed with the young musicians of the Nanaimo Children’s Christmas Ensemble.
“The dark winter can be a time when we bundle up together and share stories,” says cellist Alexandra Lee, “we want everyone to leave feeling that, even though we’re entering the frosty embrace of winter, spring is alive in our hearts!”
This family-friendly show is suitable for all ages.
Performers:
Joëlle Rabu, narrator
Nicholas Ross, violin
Barry Leung, viola
Alexandra Lee, cello
