NANAIMO CONCERT BAND
NANAIMO CONCERT BAND will deliver what it has become best known and loved for since 1872… a program well played, always entertaining, and leaving the audience wanting more!
The Nanaimo Concert Band Annual Fall Concert at the Port Theatre will feature guest artist, James Mark on violin.
Under the Musical Direction of Dr. John Churchley NANAIMO CONCERT BAND will deliver what it has become best known and loved for since 1872… a program well played, always entertaining, and leaving the audience wanting more!
CONCERT THEME: “IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT”
Our fall concert is on the same weekend as Hallowe’en, so we couldn’t help but choose some music that’s dark and mysterious. Whether it’s music from a spooky movie or musical, or music about dark rain clouds and storms, come prepared to be chilled, thrilled, and entertained. We might have a happy ending or two just to balance things out. This concert features guest artist, James Mark on violin who will join the band for Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre as well as Schindler’s List.
Born and raised in Nanaimo, British Columbia, James Mark began violin studies at age four and has performed with the Vancouver Island Symphony since 1994. His musical path led him through studies at Vancouver Island University, York University, and the California Institute of the Arts, where he completed graduate work in the Performer/Composer program. A versatile artist, James has composed for dance, film, and large ensembles, and he serves as Musical Director for the beloved Yellowpoint Christmas Spectacular.
In addition to his active performing and composing career, James has taught for nearly two decades, first at Vancouver Island University and now at Brentwood College School and Aspengrove School, where he is developing innovative music programs. Recent highlights include appearances with the international Candlelight Concert series, bringing music to audiences in unique and inspiring settings.
It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents—except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind that swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.
