SPOTLIGHT: International Guitar Night
World-Class Musicians
The 26th Canadian Tour of International Guitar Night features:
Caroline Planté, Itamar Erez, Jamie Dupuis and Jocelyn Gould.
IGN is the world’s premier touring guitar festival, each show bringing together the most interesting and innovative acoustic guitarists to exchange musical ideas in a public concert setting. For each tour, IGN founder Brian Gore brings together a new cast of guitar luminaries for special evenings of solos, duets, and quartets that highlight the dexterity and diversity within the world of acoustic guitar. Brian founded IGN in 1995 as a forum for the world’s finest guitarists/composers to play their latest original songs and share musical ideas and talent with their peers.
CAROLINE PLANTÉ began her musical studies in Montréal, at a very young age. Her father, the flamenco guitarist Marcel 'El Rubio', transmitted his knowledge and love of music to her. Awarded many bursaries both by Canada Council for the Arts and Arts and Letters Council of Quebec, she perfected her skills in Spain with several master guitarists, singers and dancers. With over 32 years of experience as a composer and flamenco guitarist, she participated in the composition and interpretation of several important productions in Canada, USA and Spain, where she was also musical director and composer of Cruceta Flamenco (Madrid) from 2005 to 2013. The first female flamenco guitarist to ever compose and record a CD, 8 reflexiones was launched in 2010 with great international success. Since she came back to her hometown in 2013, she creates and presents several projects and collaborates with different flamenco artists from various horizons.
ITAMAR EREZ’s music holds a depth and sensitivity that touches listeners deeply. It blends the delicateness of Middle Eastern music, the freedom found in jazz and the passion of flamenco, creating a unique sound all his own. Recipient of the 2014 ACUM Prize for Special Achievement in Jazz and the prestigious 2014 Landau Prize, Itamar Erez is an internationally renowned composer and guitarist who has shared the stage with such musicians as Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Tomatito, Avishai Cohen, Jean Louis Matinier, Zohar Fresco, and others.
JAMIE DUPIS (born in New Liskeard, Ontario, Canada), is a Canadian guitarist/composer and producer, best known for his complex fingerstyle technique, energetic performances, and his arrangements on the guitar and harp guitar. In 2016, Jamie's arrangement of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd on the harp guitar has gotten over 19 million views on Facebook, gaining international recognition. Also winning 1st place at the Canadian Guitar Festival Competition (2016), one of the finest guitar competitions in the world (2016) Dupuis has successfully carved out his own style as a solo artist worldwide.
JOCELYN GOULD - 2021 JUNO Award winner Jocelyn Gould “has quickly become an “international favorite with her hard swinging, imaginative approach and technical mastery” (Joe Lang, Jersey Jazz Magazine). Her joyful energy has captivated audiences around the world and her passion for music is as infectious as her unique ability to connect with audiences. Jocelyn has absorbed the influences of the jazz guitar greats and has woven them into an exciting personal sound.
