TheatreOne offers a unique experience each year with its Emerging Voices series.
New works from Canadian playwrights are submitted to our Artistic Associate, Jessica Schacht. She then selects three to work on with the playwrights, culminating in an intensive workshop and public reading hosted in the Port Theatre Lobby.
It is a rare platform for input and a great opportunity to see their work performed. For theatre lovers, it is a wonderful chance to both engage in the creative process and enjoy a stimulating and entertaining evening of theatre.
Each performance is by donation at the door.
The Ties That Bind by Yvette Menard
February 1st, 7:30pm
The Ties That Bind is about choices – when we’re happy with them and when we’re not. In this play, Martha recounts the choices she has made in the past ten, twenty, thirty years. They were good choices at the time, but what about now? Do these choices still fit the life she wants to create now?
About the Playwright: Yvette has been finding and telling stories her whole life. She wrote and directed her first play when she was about 10 years old, to present to her parents for their anniversary. Since then, she has raised two children, returned to school as an older adult, graduated from Dentistry, served in the military, and become a clown and a social activist.
Yvette is grateful that out of the solitude, the past two years have provided many opportunities to train online with theatre, clown, and write teachers from around the world.
