Join us for our SIXTH Port Theatre performance featuring Canadian Folk Music Award winners Fiddelium, with special guest artist Sylvia Humble.

Fiddelium has represented Nanaimo on the national stage for ten years, garnering two CFMA nominations as well as the award for Young Performer of the Year (2023). Recently they were featured in Tod Maffin’s video performance “I Am The Very Model of a Modern Day Canadian”. This youth string ensemble plays intricate and thrilling arrangements of traditional and contemporary folk music from around the world. Fiddelium will absolutely shatter your expectations with their high-calibre playing and professional stage presence.

Sylvia Humble is a folk-inspired singer-songwriter known for her pure heartfelt vocals, rhythmic ukulele strumming, and engaging performance style. Influenced by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Coco Love Alcorn — with whom she has performed — she brings warmth, passion, and deep musical joy to the stage. In this concert, Sylvia will share favourite songs by Coco Love Alcorn, Shari Ulrich, and Rick Scott, along with an original song of her own featuring string arrangements by Trish Horrocks. A devoted community songleader, she is especially known for getting audiences singing and creating rich, participatory musical experiences.

Once again this year, Fiddelium will be joined by the Nanaimo Fiddle Society Folk Band, a multi-generational folk “orchestra” with 50 members playing fiddle, viola, cello, guitar, mandolin and ukulele. And of course this show would not be complete without an appearance by local Suzuki string students as young as 3 years old: this heartwarming opening is a fan favourite each and every year.

With over 80 musicians on stage, this performance is the ultimate celebration of the power of music to create and foster community.
