About the Nanaimo Chinese Cultural Society (NCCS)
Our Nanaimo organization was created in 1982, to cultivate a sense of belonging, self-esteem and fellowship within the local Chinese Canadian diaspora. Its focus includes working with other community groups to initiate and support cultural and local events/programs. Examples include the annual Lunar New Year’s celebration at various significant venues (the Nanaimo Museum, the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, the Coast Bastion Inn, Beban Park), the Mulan Percussion Musical at the Port Theatre, plus many memorable world class performances such as “The Art of Accordion” in the Old City Quarter, the “Mid-Autumn Red Carpet Night” at the Nanaimo Golf Club, and the “Angel Ambassador GuangDong Experimental Middle School Choir” concert at the Port Theatre.
