The Island Consort Chamber Choir presents “Bach & Beyond”, a wonderfully entertaining and inspiring mix of Early Music, modern classics, folk and vocal jazz. Under the direction of Bruce Farquharson, the choir sings its first ever Bach Cantata and also features alto saxophonist, Nicola Crowhurst, to accompany the ensemble on four pieces. The program encompasses the passion and dance of Bach’s Baroque, deep inner reflection, joy, romance and humour – all performed with beautiful harmonic arrangements.
We currently have 23 enthusiastic singers producing amazing sound; 7 sopranos, 7 altos, 4 tenors and 5 basses. Our first 3 rehearsals are designed to familiarize the choir with the repertoire in our program, following which we will refine and unify the music that we make. As usual, our program comprises many moods and genres which takes the singers (and our audiences) on a deeply felt musical and emotional journey. Many hours of commitment and effort go into preparing our programs to the point of performance, along with the joys of camaraderie, good humour and fulfillment.
