at St. Andrew’s United Church, Nanaimo
Our concert of Mozart’s awe-inspiring Requiem, plus works by Mendelssohn, Rheinberger and Britten, features guest soloists, organ, strings and winds.
Mozart’s Requiem K. 626 is one of the greatest icons of choral music. The Requiem is surrounded by myth and mystery, as Mozart died before he could finish his well-loved composition. After more than 230 years since its creation, choirs around the world continue to bring it to life. Malaspina Choir will present Requiem with a string quartet plus organ, basset horn (reputed to be Mozart’s favourite instrument) and bassoon. Our soloists are all professional singers from Canada’s outstanding choral ensemble, the Vancouver Chamber Choir: soprano Jane Long, altoTabitha Brasso-Ernst, tenor Michael Stahl and bass Wim Vermeulen.
We will open the program with four short pieces: Mozart’s Regina Coeli K. 276; Mendelssohn’s O for the Wings of a Dove, Rheinberger’s Abendlied and Benjamin Britten’s Jubilate Deo for choir and organ.
It has been almost a decade since Mozart’s Requiem was heard in the Central Island. Please join us and enjoy an afternoon full of the most beautiful choral music ever written.
