Malaspina Choir explores themes of renewal and reawakening in our season’s opening concert. The program includes selections from Bach’s beloved Cantata 140 Wachet Auf (Sleepers Awake) and Bruckner’s most famous motet, ‘Locus Iste’ (This place…). Samuel Barber’s Reincarnations brings back to life three poems by Irishman Anthony Raftery. The concert closes with works of Bernstein: three choruses from The Lark and music from his most popular musical West Side Story, arranged for strings, organ and choir.
Fiona Blackburn conducts Jenny Vincent on organ and the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra which will accompany the choir as well as adding their own set of music under concertmaster Karl Rainer.
