Auditions for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s beloved holiday classic Nutcracker will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022.

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is looking for:
| Party Children (3’8″ – 4’10”) | Required to act and perform basic dancing steps |
| Mounties (3’8″ – 4’10”) | Required to act and perform basic dancing/blocking actions |
| Mice (3’8″ – 4’10”) | Required to perform basic dancing/blocking actions and wear large head pieces |
| Angels (3’8″ – 4’10”) | Required to act and perform intermediate dancing steps |
| Polar Bears (3’8″ – 4’10”) | Required to perform basic dancing/blocking actions and wear large head pieces |
| Reindeer (5’0″ – 5’6″) | Required to pull the sleigh and perform basic dancing steps |
Audition Day:
Friday, September 9, 2022
| 3:00pm – 3:30pm | Check-In for ALL parents and children auditioning |
| 3:45pm – 4:45pm | Audition Class #1 – Children 7-8 Years Old |
| 5:00pm – 6:00pm | Audition Class #2 – Children 9 Years and Older |

All auditioning dancers will be required to bring a photo on the day to attach to their registration.
Please be aware that there is a $10/child registration fee in order to participate in auditions.
Parents may not observe the audition, however we ask that a parent/guardian remain in the building during the audition as the dancers may finish early
Audition Results:
The results of the auditions will be relayed to parents via email. There is no need for dancers or their families to contact RWB or The Port Theatre to enquire if they are cast.
Rehearsals:
All rehearsals will be held at Harbour Dance Studios, 139 Bastion St., Nanaimo; unless otherwise noted
Rehearsals will be held on Sundays, Starting October 23rd. Not all dancers will be required at all rehearsals, the final times for the rehearsals/orientation will be communicated in advance; dancers invited to participate in the production will receive a detailed rehearsal schedule.
Starting December 4th, dancers may be required for weekday evening rehearsals.
Starting December 6th, dancers must be available for afternoon and evening rehearsal with the Company. Dancers may be needed during school hours for Company rehearsals.
Performances:
The Port Theatre, 125 Front Street, Nanaimo.
- December 6th – 7:30pm
- December 7th – 7:30pm
Information Package:
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet will prepare an information package to be provided to parents of the selected children on the first day of rehearsal.
The package will include:
- The RWB contact name and phone number
- Make-up, hair, and rehearsal/performance uniform requirements
- Detailed rehearsal schedule, including technical and dress rehearsals, and performance schedules
- Drop off/Pick up times and locations for rehearsals and performances
- Dressing room information, Theatre Etiquette and Procedures Information sheet
- Suggested list for what to bring to the theatre for performances
- Ticket information for Nutcracker 2022 performances
Parent Chaperones will be required and requested closer to the performances. The Port Theatre will require all chaperones accessing the theatre to be fully vaccinated.
